New Belarusian unmanned system
One of the new developments demonstrated at Army 2016 is the Shershen (Hornet) unmanned aerial system (UAS) by Belarusian company Aerosystem. The UAS may include several quadrotor vehicles of the same name. As was earlier reported, the system was offered for Russian special operations forces. The Shershen small-sized quadrotor has a take-off weight of around 2.83 kg, including 300 g of mission payload in the form of a modular electro-optical observation system operating in the visible and thermal spectra. The vehicle has a maximum operating altitude of 3,000 m and a range of 5 km away from the ground control station.
The Shershen’s endurance is 35 minutes. It can fly autonomously (along a programmed itinerary comprising over 100 waypoints) or controlled by the ground operator. The system detects targets, establishes their coordinates, and is also able to automatically track moving targets. The vehicle is fitted with a GPS/Glonass-enabled inertial navigation system.
